Role of Non-Governmental Organizations in German-Russian relations discussed in Berlin

Non-Governmental Organizations’ Role conference supported by the Russkiy Mir Foundation, Russia-Germany society and Federal alliance of German societies East – West comprising more than 80 German organizations and unions is taking place in Berlin the day before St. Petersburg conference.

As per the Russkoye Pole website, the speech of Russian ambassador to Germany Vladimir Grinin has opened the conference. He was talking about importance of public diplomacy in contemporary world.

Conference participants representing Russia and Germany are going to discuss complicated bilateral relations and opportunities of non-governmental organizations for setting bilateral civil dialogue as well as to share experience of public diplomacy projects. As a rule, this kind of work is unnoticed by authorities, mass media and society, however, it is very important, especially, when opportunities of usual diplomacy are quite limited.

Among the rest of topics are development of economic cooperation, joint youth projects, setting contacts on municipal level between twin cities.

Representatives of non-governmental organizations of the two countries, German Foreign Ministry, Russian Embassy to Berlin, Twin Cities international association, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, Russian-German Economic Alliance, National Council of Youth and Children Organizations of Russia, the Russkiy Mir Foundation, Russian Center and Russian House of Science and Culture in Berlin and other organizations are taking part in the conference.
