The British Embassy, Israel has vacancy for a Communications Officer for Business, Tech & Science, and Grade – A2 (L).
Overview of the role:
This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic, energetic and highly-motivated individual to play a key role in the Embassy’s high-profile public diplomacy [JB emphasis] and media work. Reporting to the Deputy Head of Comms, the successful candidate will assist in implementing the Embassy’s business, tech and science communications strategy, including the UK’s prosperity agenda and overall perception during the process of Brexit. He or she will also maintain responsibility for relevant Embassy’s digital presence. The individual will be responsible for securing high-profile coverage and public exposure of Embassy activities. The Comms Officer plays a leading role in driving forward an ambitious programme of public events.
Main Responsibilities:
• Actively promoting coverage of Embassy activities in business, tech and science, while initiating opportunities for press coverage and planning media activity
• Writing and disseminating press releases in English and Hebrew
• Creating and maintaining an active presence on various social media platforms, including managing a dedicated website
• Dealing with enquiries from members of the press
• Leading the planning of events of all scales, with a focus on business, tech and science
• Monitoring the Israeli media and writing regular press round-ups
• Additional tasks as required, including swift and accurate translation from Hebrew to English and English to Hebrew

Knowledge & Experience:
Essential:
• Mother tongue level of written and verbal communication skills in Hebrew and English.
• BA required (preferably in communications or a related field)
• Proficiency in managing social media and other online platforms (at least a year of experience)
• At least two years of experience working with media in a PR company, or other related communications positions
• Creativity, flexibility and excellent communications skills
• Proven organisational and administrative skills
• Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
• Ability to work well as part of a team
• Excellent IT skills, including the ability to quickly learn new programmes
Desirable:
• Knowledge and contacts in the Israeli press
• Experience with website management / design or marketing
• Experience in managing medium-large scale events
• Strategic awareness of UK-Israel relations and the role of the British Embassy in delivering UK objectives
Working Hours and Remuneration:
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including the non-negotiable salary of NIS 9,532 per month plus social benefits. The initial contract will be for one year, with a four-month probationary period. Parking facilities are not provided or paid for by the Embassy.
No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
Working hours are Monday to Thursday 8:00-16:00 and Friday 8:00-13:30, flexibility will be required including evening events, some travel locally and occasional overseas travel. Provisional start date is end of November 2018.
Eligibility:

• Receive the appropriate level of security clearance;
• Candidates must be able to work legally in Israel.
