On November 17, 2017, Timur Makhmutov, RIAC Deputy Director of Programs, made a speech at MGIMO-University on the importance of public diplomacy tools within Russia’s foreign policy implementation and the role of analytical centers in foreign policy decision making. The lecture was organized within the Public Diplomacy course for the students of the International Relations schools.
The key principles and results of RIAC activity were pointed out in the course of the meeting. In particular, it was noted that the Council occupies a unique place among organizations involved in the expertise of the key issues in world politics. RIAC activity can be fully attributed to a special type of public diplomacy — expert diplomacy. Over six years of work the Council has achieved notable results in this area, making it possible to reach stable interaction with similar centers abroad, to publish joint bilateral reports, that have a significant potential for the formation of constructive bilateral relations between Russia and its foreign partners. More than fifty expert events are held per year. The analytical materials are published on the website russiancouncil.ru on a regular basis, the annual audience this year reached two million people.
The lecture arose notable interest among the listeners and finished with a QandA session.
