Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid said Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met during his current visit to Khartoum members of parliament Mohamed Orabi, former minister of foreign affairs, and Hatem Bashat, who are part of the Egyptian public diplomacy delegation currently visiting Sudan.
The spokesperson said that during the meeting Shoukry expressed his gratitude for the public diplomacy initiative and the visit to Sudan, which emphasizes the depth and specificity of relations between the two countries and the keenness of all the Egyptian people to develop and strengthen bilateral relations in all fields so as to achieve the interests of the people of the Nile Valley. The foreign minister also stressed that public diplomacy efforts complement the efforts exerted through official diplomatic channels and open up new prospects to strengthen ties and common interests.
The spokesperson said that the foreign minister also heard the delegation's assessment of the results of the meetings it conducted with Sudanese officials, thought and opinion leaders, and the various communities in Sudan, which overall confirmed the commitment of Sudan's government and people to support relations with Egypt based on an understanding of the shared destiny and goals that join the people of the Nile Valley.
