Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
To lead the newly integrated BCG and UKMIS public diplomacy team to design and deliver our programme of events, visits and special projects. The jobholder will provide strategic direction to the team, directly leading on event design and delivery, and supervise 2 members of staff (B3 visits officer and A2 support officer). The jobholder will also lead special projects for the BCG, for example, planning and delivering our programme of activities to improve gender equality in the economy. The jobholder will have an external representational role, negotiating partnerships and developing external networks to deliver our programme.

Duties & Repsonsibilities [sic]:
  • Lead on the design, planning and delivery of the visits and events programme for the BCG and the UK Mission to the UN in line with the Government’s priorities, working in collaboration with subject matter experts across both Missions;
  • Develop public diplomacy strategy to deliver key objectives through a variety of high impact and well-timed activities throughout the year, including delivering HMG’s overarching international objectives. This requires strategic thinking, a good network and engagement with policy experts, identifying opportunities and proactive planning.
  • Ensuring the effective delivery by the NY Events Team of all UKMIS and BCG visits and events programme, including generating visit programme ideas and thematic content for events, overseeing liaison with external partners and venues, negotiation, management of event logistics, forecasting budgets and invoicing;
  • Lead the team to deliver the extensive UNGA visits and events programme, including visit logistics for the PM, Cabinet Ministers and Junior Ministers as well as their official entourage (up to 80 people), and event delivery for all UK-led side events (which can be between 5-15), drawing on temporary UNGA staff as resource.
  • Responsible for the delegated budget (BCG) for PPA and Events team including profiling event and visit spend and matching resources to priority objectives, contract negotiations, procurement, and following of Purchase-to-Pay processes in line with FCO policies to ensure delivery of Value for Money;
  • For the BCG, liaise with internal and network teams to develop and facilitate delivery of an Income Generation plan;
  • For the BCG, coordinate public diplomacy initiatives that support British values, culture and the UK-US special relationship;
  • Manage BCG’s relationships with NY-based US foundations, cultural organisations, external partners and event venues; Oversee delivery of logistical support for Ministerial visits to New York;
  • Manage a team of 3, including the New York Visits Officer and the Political, Press & Public Affairs Administrative Assistant, who supports the delivery of events and visits.

Essential qualifications and experience
Under US State Department requirements, the Embassy Network may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders or A or NATO visa holders with EAD cards*. If you hold a visa other than an A or NATO visa you are not currently eligible to work at the Embassy. *A visas or NATO visas with EAD cards are acceptable at the Embassy, Consulates, and British Defence Staff (BDS) outposts. The UK Mission to the UN (UKMIS) accepts G visas.
