Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

Main purpose of job:

We are seeking an experienced Communications Manager to work in our communications team in Brasilia, reporting to the Head of Communications and Public Diplomacy of the Brazil Network.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide first class communications advice and support to the staff, and work in close liaison with the wider communications and public diplomacy team across the country (Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Recife). The ideal candidate is an energetic professional with proven experience in delivering result-driven communications and marketing campaigns through Media Relations, Digital and Social Media outreach, Internal Communications and Strategic Communications and Marketing initiatives, as well as proven track record of working with senior stakeholders and having experience with managing a team.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Planning and delivering communications campaigns through media relations, marketing campaigns, event management, internal and external communications, and digital and social media initiatives, and focused engagement with target audiences (business, academia, youth and investors)
  • Press Officer responsibilities, directly advising and assisting the British Ambassador to Brazil on Media Relations, as well as on Digital Diplomacy
  • Reporting to the Head of Comms and assisting Senior Government Officials on engagement with Brazilian Media, both reactive and proactive
  • Planning and delivering communications using the GREAT Britain Campaign, playing a leading role in delivering communications for a wide range of areas such as Science and Innovation, Infrastructure, Education, Political, Finance, Climate Change, Investment, and others
  • Working closely with the British Council, Visit Britain and other private sector stakeholders to meet these aims
  • Managing and delivering communications around high level and VIP UK government visits and events
  • Supporting the Head of Communications for the Brazil Network to identify and deliver new creative forms of engagement with Brazilian media and wider public
  • Working proactively on forming new relationships and contacts with an eye to increasing UK engagement and influence in the Brazilian media market
  • Support digital and social media engagement activities across the UK in Brazil Network, including the implementation of digital tools for external and internal communications
  • To liaise with FCO departments (especially Communications Directorate and Digital Diplomacy), as well as other UK Government departments, and with local partners to deliver UK in Brazil Network’s objectives
  • Other tasks according to need, including participation in the corporate life of the Embassy and wider network
Essential Qualifications, skills and experience:
  • Proven track record of delivering results through PR and digital media
  • Experience in managing a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • 3 years of experience in Communications, including with a Government or International organization or media outlets
  • Experience working as a Press Officer would be a strong advantage
  • A University Degree; a strong interest in international relations and a proven track-record in the delivery of high impact, innovative communications program
  • An excellent command of written and spoken English and Portuguese is mandatory
  • Extensive understanding of Brazilian media
  • Having lived or studied in the UK would be a plus
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal communication skills, good attention to detail and be a strong team player. The job requires flexibility, willingness and ability to deal with multiple tasks and priorities and to perform with confidence with very senior stakeholders.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

Desirable:
  • Previous experience as a Press officer/Press Secretary a strong advantage
  • Having lived or studied in the UK would be a plus
