Diplomacy Key to Resolving Northeast Crises – Birma

A fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management (CIPDM), Barrister Baba Birma, has said the people of his home state of Borno have a lot to benefit from the kind of training and expertise offered by the institute.

Birma said the institute’s training and certification will help in contributing to the holistic sensitization of the people of Borno State who are coming out of the worst days of Boko Haram insurgency. Speaking on the margins of the induction ceremony for new members, graduate, fellow and associates of the Institute, Birma who is the Executive Assistant to the Vice Chairman of the Dangote Group, said: “Having gone through this training, and certification as a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management, I have also added to my knowledge that diplomacy is the best way to solve many challenges facing the country, most especially in maintaining the significant gains made by the present administration in all areas. I think all hands must be on deck to consolidate on the gains made so far in tackling Boko Haram insurgency.”

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno state, Birma said as a son of Borno state, he will fall back home more to ensure his people gain from is wealth of experience and knowledge to further enhance the development of the state.

He also commended the Federal Government, for applying diplomacy in tackling various challenges confronting the nation.

The ceremony held at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research Centre, Yaba, Lagos, witnessed the presence of captains of industries, academics, traditional rulers and members of organized private sector.

The event saw the induction of over 250 new members and recertification of 100 members. The theme for the year’s induction and training was, ‘Diplomacy & Its Strategic options’ and the lecture was delivered by Olusoji George Ph.D and Dr. Oyewole Sarumi, FCIPDM.

The chairman of the occasion, Prof. Solomon Akinboye, who is the Dean, School of Post Graduate Studies, University Of Lagos, said, ” those that have been inducted are men and women with proven integrity, good moral conduct who will further propagate the quality of the institute.”

In his welcome address, the Registrar of the Institute, Mr. Victor Oshioluemoh, drew the attention of the participants to the importance of adopting diplomacy in tackling various challenges ravaging the
nation.

“Diplomacy is a unique phenomenon that our leaders are yet to imbibe, but with over 11,000 members of this institute I believe we will change the story for better and a larger number of people will adopt the tact of diplomacy in ensuring peaceful coexistence amongst Nigerians,” he said.

Mrs. Tiamiyu Aisha Bolanle who was inducted as a senior member said what qualified her was the number of years she had spent in service and her qualification.

“It my 25th year in corporate governance and often time the institute officials do visit our offices to check on how we relate to members of the public. Aside the oral interview that I was called for, I didn’t write any other examination before I was called to be inducted as a senior member, I feel elated for this honour,” she said.
