With each new year comes innovations in the field of public diplomacy. The rise of digital diplomacy brings with it new tools like satellite remote sensing, virtual reality and more.
Check out some of the highlights from 2017 below:
- The Rise of Personalized Diplomacy by Ilan Manor. The age of digital diplomacy 3.0 emphasizes a personalized approach to technology, which has been implemented by India's Ministry of External Affairs via a smartphone app.
- Satellite Remote Sensing and Diplomatic Crisis Management by Corneliu Bjola. A look at how new satellite technologies impact the work of Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
- New Mini-Course: Transforming Data into Insights for PD Strategy. This December, CPD returned to Washington, D.C. to launch another mini-course.
- "Diplomacy in the Age of Algorithms," was the subject of the second annual International Conference on Digital Diplomacy held by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Kerania: Preserve Indigenous Languages. This addition to PD Digital was an app offering an ecosystem of digital content for indigenous languages.
- Living in Limbo: A Glimpse into the Life of Asylum Seekers. A new method of digital storytelling used virtual reality to bring attention to the struggles of asylum seekers waiting for an answer.
- What If You Were a Refugee? by Laurence Desroches. An online quiz designed to bring attention to Syrian refugees and the decisions they face.
- From Lakewood to Lahore: Virtual Cultural Exchange. Students from Pakistan and the U.S. shared their cultures with one another via YouTube.
- You, Robot by Mark Dillen. A discussion of Russia, social media and information warfare, including a focus on the rise of bots.
