A Jan. 2010 email exchange shows the aftermath of State Department staffers’ frustrations with a story that was broadcast on Al Jazeera’s English-language network. Judith McHale, who served as undersecretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs, forwarded an e-mail from the network’s managing director addressing the State Department’s complaints.
“Important that we continue to aggressively and immediately challenge inaccurate stories at the highest levels,” Ms. McHale wrote to a long list of State Department officials.
Mrs. Clinton responds, saying, “We need coordinated response which requires monitoring media.” ...
