The Czech Embassy has partnered with the Ottawa Art Gallery to host a festive exhibition featuring the works of Jessica Auer (Canada) and Markéta Hlinovská (Czech Republic). The exhibition marks the beginning of a two-year project celebrating the 150th anniversary of Canadian confederation as well as the 100th anniversary of independent Czechoslovakia.

Welcome speeches were delivered by Mr. Pavel Hrnčíř, Czech Ambassador, our special guests Mr. Leigh Sarty, Director General of European section, Global Affairs of Canada and Alexandra Badzak, director of the Ottawa Art Gallery.
Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Mr. Pavel Hrnčíř presented Gallery 17/18 project and reminded that this year the Czech Republic celebrates its 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations with Canada.
In his speech, detailing the history of Czech-Canadian bilateral relations, Mr. Leigh Sarty emphasized the fact that Canada has welcomed in the past thousands of Czechoslovak immigrants. Our shared history makes the upcoming official visit of Czech representatives in Canada later this year all the more meaningful.
Alexandra Badzak lauded the Gallery 17/18 project as a unique opportunity to establish and to promote professional and personal contact between Czech and Canadian artists.
