The U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section (PAS) is accepting applications for its 2018 Public Diplomacy Grants Program for Maldives. Grants are intended for local representatives of civil society including non-governmental organizations, cultural institutions, universities, schools, and individuals.
Goals
- Promote tolerance, by funding proposals that combat hate and build community cohesion; engage at-risk youth; promote digital literacy; and engage communities on respect for diversity.
- Improve respect for human rights, through programs which strengthen democratic values; enhance awareness and protection of human rights principles; and encourage gender equality.
- Improve respect for and application of freedom of expression, through programs that promote a free and open media; strengthen understanding of social media; empower journalists through training (including ethics, investigative techniques, and English language).
Floor of Individual Award Amounts: $15,000 USD
Average Award Amounts: $24,000 USD
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible applicants:
- The U.S. Embassy encourages applications from all sectors: committed and organized civil-society organizations, local representatives of civil society, think tanks, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, and individuals.
- All grantees must have a non-profit status.
Applicants are encouraged to provide cost-sharing from additional sources in support of their projects.The U.S. Embassy also encourages projects that use highly skilled volunteers as an element of cost-sharing.
Applications should explain clearly other likely sources of funding and role of volunteers.
