This To kick off CPD 360—our initiative exploring the potential opportunities virtual reality (VR) immersive storytelling technology present for the future of public diplomacy—CPD will send a VR team to the upcoming Winter Olympics in PyeongChang to create new ways of experiencing this mega event and the host city and culture.
This represents a continuation of CPD's ongoing work on sports diplomacy and is the latest example of USC Annenberg's commitment to Sports@Annenberg.

Heading the traveling team is CPD Faculty Fellow Robert Hernandez, USC Annenberg associate professor of professional practice and founder of JOVRNALISM (VR journalism), and producers include USC students Jordan Winters (B.A. '19, Journalism, Political Science), William Bjork (B.A. '19, Media Arts & Practice) and CPD Editor & Publications Coordinator Lisa Rau.
In 2017, Hernandez and JOVRNALISM producers received an international journalism award from the Online News Association Conference for an environmental investigative journalism project using 360 video and drones.
The 2018 CPD-JOVRNALISM team heading to South Korea will capture stories that showcase how the Olympics are uniquely positioned for innovative storytelling for public diplomacy, as the games present a unique opportunity for athletes to bring countries together and for a host country to present itself to the world.
Since its inception, CPD has been committed to engaging students in cutting-edge work. To read more about how integral students are to our operations, click here.
This project is made possible by the Korea Foundation. Read more about the grant here.
