The U.S. Embassy The Hague is seeking eligible and qualified candidates for the position of  Media Affairs Specialist (temporary)

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Basic Function of Position
Serves as Senior Locally Employed Media Advisor for Mission the Netherlands under the supervision of the Public Affairs Officer (PAO) and Assistant Public Affairs Officer (APAO). Proposes, plans, directs, and implements overall media strategies and programs to provide better understanding of U.S. policies, including drafting and placing editorials and press releases, press interviews, press conferences, NATO tours, and U.S. programs for journalists.  Establishes and maintains personal contacts with the highest level media representatives and government communications officials. Serves as the primary liaison between the Mission and the media; Oversees the selection of new items to be used in Mission press briefings; Manages the productions of daily media report for the Mission and Washington offices.

Requirements:


Qualifications and Evaluations
Education: A university degree in liberal arts, political science, economics journalism, or international relations is required.
Experience: Five to seven years of progressively more responsible experience in the communication media as a journalist, broadcaster, writer, public relations, and or advertising is required.
Language Requirements: Level 4 (fluent) of English and Dutch for speaking, reading, and writing is required.  (This may be tested.)
Job Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of Dutch media, political, social, and educational structures of the Netherlands and of its institutions and key personalities.  Thorough knowledge of Public Diplomacy (PD) [JB emphasis] information programs, U.S. foreign policy concerns, and international current events.
Skills and Abilities: Ability to develop and maintain contact with the highest levels of media contacts, including chief editors, journalists, and Dutch government press officers.  Ability to use Dutch and English effectively in communication.  Ability to administer and execute responsible, complex, and sensitive information work.  Ability to advise American officers on news coverage, on Dutch policies and trends and reaction in the media.  Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
