Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hopes during his 4-day US visit to secure a decadelong $5 billion a year military aid package to help Israel defend itself against Iran and other regional threats.
Political tensions between the United States and Israel were strained again this week when Netanyahu appointed Ran Baratz as his new government spokesman and chief of public diplomacy. Reports of Baratz’ Facebook posts calling President Obama ‘’anti-semitic’’ and insulting Secretary of State John Kerry surfaced shortly after the appointment. Baratz has apologized for his comments and will not be part of the delegation traveling to Washington.Netanyahu himself condemned the comments.’’ I have just read Dr. Ran Baratz’s posts on the Internet,” he said in a statement. “Those posts are totally unacceptable and in no way reflect my positions or the policies of the Government of Israel.” ....
