Pakistani academics feted by Pak envoy in Japan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Ambassador to Japan Farukh Amil has stressed for establishing close linkages between the universities and students of Japan and Pakistan.

The ambassador expressed these views at a dinner hosted at Pakistan residence for over 40 Pakistani academics, intelligentsia, scholars and researchers, said a press release received from Tokyo.

The academicians are currently pursuing research and higher studies in different disciplines especially in science and technology in Japan.

The ambassador acknowledged the excellent work being done by Pakistani academics and said that they could contribute immensely in image building and creating a bridge between people of the two countries as well with the Pakistani community in Tokyo.

He stressed that such unity and fusion of purpose would be extremely beneficial and accordingly has invited the sister government organisations present in Japan including National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

The ambassador also highlighted prime minister's vision for a "peaceful neighbourhood" for development and harmonious co-existence with dignity.

He especially outlined Pakistan's sacrifices and contributions for world peace through peacekeeping activities. He urged the academics to share their knowledge with people in Pakistan after completion of their studies in Japan.

NBP General Manager Ashfaq Khan stressed the need for Pakistanis to believe in ourselves and hoped that young scholars would make a real difference.

PIA Country Manager Abdul Jawad Khan emphasised on learning from Japanese people, their development and society.

Pakistan Students Association of Japan (PSAJ) President Baber Sajjad encouraged academics to contribute in projecting soft image of Pakistan through arranging different activities in their respective universities and institutions.

Post-doctoral Fellow Dr Muhammad Ibrahim, said the first priority of the Pakistani academics in Japan should be to serve their country's rural areas and small cities.

Ambassador Farukh Amil visited Satte Nishi Junior High School, Saitama Prefecture where he highlighted the Pakistan-Japan relations in perspective of diplomatic, economic, trade and education.

The visit was a part of the embassy's public diplomacy efforts. He was specially invited by the principal of school IsaoAso, said a message received on Tuesday.

Ambassador Amil also dilated upon the salient features of Pakistan's contributions to the United Nations Peace-Keeping Operations (UNPKO) and the action taken by the democratic governments in Pakistan for the empowerment of women.
