Based in Washington, D.C., the International Affairs team specifically develops targeted communications and public affairs campaigns for clients, including foreign governments, international NGOs, global corporations, companies entering foreign markets, international associations, individuals and U.S. territories. We know international media, policy, and economic issues, understand cultural nuances (particularly in a public diplomacy and crisis context), have lived and worked overseas, and support a variety of client projects ranging from short-term projects to large, multi-faceted campaigns.
Responsibilities:
As an Edelman intern, you will be responsible for assisting with implementing and monitoring various projects within a specific set of accounts, while working closely with your account team.
Specifically, you will:

As an Edelman intern, you will be responsible for assisting with implementing and monitoring various projects within a specific set of accounts, while working closely with your account team.
Specifically, you will:
- Research complex issues and synthesize key points for team and client use
- Compile and update media lists catering to niche topics
- Draft pitch letters, email pitch memos and follow up communications to media contacts and vendors with supervisor approval
- Draft and edit press releases, website content, memos, pitches and more written communications
- Spearhead the compilation of media coverage and wrap-up reports
- Read and identify media clips from clipping services and on-line resources
- Assist with monitoring client competition coverage
- Pitch the media under the direction of the supervisor
- Assist with preparation of press kits for distribution
- Draft pitch letters and/or email pitch memos to vendors with the approval of the supervisor
- Conduct and compile research
- Gain a basic understanding of key client information, including general business strategy, industry issues, products and services, key customers and competitors in the marketplace
- Participate in brainstorms
- Superior verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
- Strong writing skills and demonstrated ability to learn nuanced writing skills
- Solid organizational skills and the ability to adapt to new conditions, assignments and deadlines
- Effective time management skills
- An expressed ability to be entrepreneurial and resourceful
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite
- A basic understanding of research and media list building tools (Factiva, Edge, etc.)
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of account service staff within a specific set of accounts
- Familiarity with the international issues, public relations, and communications disciplines through past coursework or other internships
You must have an interest in public relations or communications and possess good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with others.
About our internship program:
- The duration of the internship is a minimum of 3 months, with a potential opportunity for extension to a maximum of 6 months
- Interns are paid $12.50 per hour and are eligible for overtime
- Most of our interns are post-graduates and expected to work a full-time schedule (Weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.)
