Summer of Public Diplomacy

globaltiesus.org

Summer of PD - Save the Date - Updated 1
The Global Ties Summer of Public Diplomacy series seeks to inform and advance understanding of the role of citizens in shaping international affairs. From July 17-18, this two-day series of events will help current and emerging public diplomacy leaders connect on global issues and advance U.S. civic engagement locally, nationally, and internationally.

Through tailored workshops, panel discussions, and social networking, the Summer of Public Diplomacy will convene a broad range of Americans who are increasingly leading U.S. public diplomacy efforts at home and abroad. This includes cultivating business and educational partnerships, hosting international visitors, and advocating for America's continued leadership on the global stage at the grassroots level.

Empowered citizens are key to building a globally literate workforce. Whether you are a young or mid-career professional, join us this summer as we explore ways to connect, lead, and mobilize a global network of public diplomacy professionals now and into the next generation.
More details about each event are forthcoming. Please check back for more information in the coming weeks. You may also sign up for email alerts to receive updates:

Leading the Way "Unconference" | 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.
New York University - DC Campus
How does your international experience shape your story? How does working or traveling abroad guide your work and who you are as a professional? How do we make the jump from talking about public diplomacy to becoming a globally engaged practitioner?

Geared for young professionals working or seeking careers in international affairs and education, the Leading the Way Unconference provides a unique networking and professional development opportunity for young practitioners in international affairs. Using the "unconference" format, attendees determine the topics of discussion and guide the learning outcomes of the workshop as facilitators provide expertise and space for peer-to-peer learning. This unconference will especially focus on how to articulate the value of international engagement to a skeptical public.
Young professionals under 35 working in foreign affairs, including summer interns, are welcome to attend.

Connecting the Next Generation Social | 5:30 - 8:00 p.m.
Open to the general public. Join us for a casual evening of social networking to cool off in the DC summer heat. With a $10 suggested minimum donation, you can help us ensure the continued success of the Emerging Leaders Program for new professionals in public diplomacy.

THURSDAY, JULY 18

Learning to Lead Seminar | 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Open to alumni of the Emerging Leaders Program. We know that today's young professionals will become tomorrow's community leaders, diplomats, and policymakers. That's why we launched the Emerging Leaders Program to empower young professionals and strengthen U.S. communities to continue promoting local and global engagement.

As an Emerging Leader, you were selected for the program based on your potential to succeed in the international affairs field. The Learning to Lead Seminar is an opportunity for alumni of the Emerging Leaders Program to build on the experience from the National Meeting and boost your competitiveness in today's international affairs job market. Led by established professionals, the seminar will cover a broad range of topics from advocacy to program management to building a personal brand, and more.

This event is by invitation only.
