Professor Gary Rawnsley from Aberystwyth University will present to the Institute of Asia and Pacific Studies on 'Making the Invisible Visible: Taiwan's soft power and public diplomacy'.
Gary Rawnsley is Professor of Public Diplomacy in the Department of International Politics, Aberystwyth University, and is Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor for International. A former Director of IAPS, he was also the Founding Dean of UNNC and Head of International Studies. His research sits at the intersection of international communications and international relations, with particular focus on strategic communications in Asia. He is the co-editor of the Routledge Handbook of Chinese Media and the Routledge Handbook of Soft Power, the editor of a forthcoming special issue of Media and Communication on the subject of International Broadcasting in Public Diplomacy, and his latest journal article, comparing the soft power utility of China's CCTV and Russia's RT appeared in Politics. Professor Rawnsley has held visiting and adjunct positions in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia and Malaysia.
