Re “Looking beyond Mugabe” (Opinion, Oct. 27): Is Zimbabwe on the precipice of becoming a failed state? For most citizens, life will change under Robert Mugabe’s handpicked successor. Will it be an improvement? If the West shows a preference for a successor, Mr. Mugabe will banish that figure from public life. The right way to improve relations over time between Zimbabwe and the West is through public diplomacy, the exchange of ideas, arts and culture, personal contacts and educational exchanges.
