The British Embassy in Helsinki is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Communications Officer. 
The successful candidate will be working with the Strategic Communications Manager to deliver effective communications to a wide audience across the broad range of the British Embassy’s objectives in Finland, including through the Embassy digital and social media channels. 
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Media and Communications: working with the Strategic Communications Manager to develop public relations campaigns which promote the UK; creating engaging digital content for the Embassy’s social media platform; maintaining the Embassy’s websites and blog platforms and amplifying digital content; maintaining and building the Embassy’s existing network of media contacts and responding to media enquiries; helping to deliver the Embassy’s wider public diplomacy through Embassy events and visits; and analysing the effectiveness of our communications to inform and improve future work.
- Press reporting: providing regular reviews of the social media landscape in Finland for Embassy colleagues, and producing daily local press summaries and weekly internal newsletters.
- Internal Communications: working with the Strategic Communications Manager to ensure effective internal communications.
- Provide support to the wider Political Team as required. 
Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
- Strong communication skills, both in written and oral, in Finnish and English.
- Effective social media and digital skills (including Facebook and Twitter).
- Attention to detail, strong organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise.
- Flexible, resilient under pressure and decisive, with the ability to deliver quickly and to a high standard.
- Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a related field.
- Experience of working in an international context and/or relevant experience in a public relations or communications role.
- Swedish language, oral and written
- Basic graphic designing skills
- Photography, Videography and editing skills; social media and digital media content production
- Good knowledge of the Finnish media landscape.
- An understanding of UK culture and a desire and interest in learning more about UK politics and its media landscape.
- Understanding of current affairs/political environment/foreign policy.

Other benefits and conditions of employment:

This is a full-time permanent contract of 36.25 hours per week. Working hours are Monday – Friday (9.00- 16.45). 
The annual leave entitlement is 20 days, increasing to 25 days after one year’s service. Leave for temporary, contract or hourly-paid staff is also calculated on a pro-rata basis. The Embassy pays an annual holiday bonus. Embassy employees are entitled to a private medical scheme for basic healthcare services and to use the Embassy’s recreational facilities. 
The appointment is subject to security clearance and the successful completion of a probationary period. 
All applicants should have the right to live and work in Finland. The British Embassy does not sponsor for work permits. 
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Finland are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Finnish employment law and FCO guidance for Local Staff.
