Aug. 10 (Yonhap) -- South Korea appointed a veteran female diplomat as its ambassador to Britain on Friday amid the government's efforts to install more women in key positions.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Park Enna, its ambassador for public diplomacy [JB emphasis], will take up the post.
She will become Seoul's first female ambassador to London. For South Korea, the embassy in London is one of its major diplomatic missions abroad.
Park joined the ministry in 1985 and served as a councilor and minister at the Beijing embassy. She was in charge of the ministry's development and cooperation bureau from 2013-2014 after a yearslong stint at the country's mission to the United Nations.
Last year, the Moon Jae-in administration appointed Kang Kyung-wha as the nation's first female foreign minister.
