Excerpt:While Democrats are freaking out over Russian supposedly meddling in the elections of other nations, Republicans are focused on George Soros’ alleged meddling in European politics and his involvement with the radical leftist movement here in America.
Concerns about Soros’ involvement most recently were raised by the Hungarian prime minister, who last week lashed out at the Soros “empire” and accused it of deploying “tons of money and international heavy artillery,” Fox News reports.
But days earlier, Republican lawmakers in Washington started asking questions about whether U.S. tax dollars also were being used to fund Soros projects in the small, conservative-led country of Macedonia.
Rep. Christopher Smith, R-N.J., led a group of House lawmakers in writing to Ambassador Jess Baily — an Obama appointee — demanding answers. “It seems that the U.S. government funded organizations that have taken sides, specifically, the side of the socialists, which is absolutely unacceptable. I think this is illegal and we will examine this case to the fullest extent,” he said.
“We need to have a detailed oversight into what the administration has been doing over the past eight years because we have been taking sides politically in other countries as well, and there have been other similar incidents. That undermines U.S. public diplomacy and our diplomacy in general. It is against the law and is unheard of, ” Smith said. ...

JB comment on the above, in reaction to critical comments about it (and the person who posted it on his blog) on Facebook [slightly amended]
Friends: I posted the above article (with its, granted, silly/provocative headline), because it pertains not to my personal opinions, but to the topic of my blog (public diplomacy - PD), given the article’s citation of a PD-related remark by a U.S. lawmaker (Rep. Rep. Christopher Smith, R-N.J.): “ ‘We need to have a detailed oversight into what the administration has been doing over the past eight years because we have been taking sides politically in other countries as well, and there have been other similar incidents. That undermines U.S. public diplomacy and our diplomacy in general. It is against the law and is unheard of, Smith said.”
The statement is cited in other articles, under less flamboyant headlines: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-02-21/us-lawmakers-are-probing-soros-involvement-european-politics http://www.westernjournalism.com/u-s-european-officials-probe-soros-meddling-foreign-elections/.
FYI, the focus of my PD blog is on PD’s role in U.S./international politics, with an emphasis on its linguistic and historical evolution; the articles included in the blog are not chosen according to parti pris, ideological criteria, but according to their relevance to PD as an activity/subject of study (granted, from my not totally “unbiased” perspective as a former diplomat and author of lightly academic studies on public diplomacy).
I must confess I do have one even perhaps greater bias that is reflected in the blog: occasionally choosing articles/images aimed, perhaps unsuccessfully, at making its readers laugh/smile/snicker (?) in these sad times.
It’s up to you to judge if the above discussed article, with its silly title, fits in that 'humorous" PD category, despite (because of?) its historically pertinent quotation by Congressman Smith .J
