Communications Internship
Position Overview
The Communications intern works closely with the Communications team. The intern divides their time between communications, database management, and social media support as well as providing general office administration and project support. The Communications Intern is responsible for supporting the communications team in the development of content across platforms (including email, website, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other channels) and supporting the development of associated projects.
Events Internship
Position Overview
The Events intern works closely with the Events team on all aspects of event planning and implementation, including, but not limited to our annual National Meeting, regional summits across the U.S., and the Discover Diplomacy Weekend. They might also have tasks relating to curriculum development projects. During the course of the semester, the Events intern may be offered the opportunity to provide support to Global Ties U.S. exchange programs, which falls outside of the regular internship scope of work.  
Public Diplomacy Internship
Position Overview
The Public Diplomacy intern works closely with a cross-section of staff teams, and may be working on multiple tasks/projects simultaneously. Tasks may include, but are not limited to: research, writing, editing, monitoring social media, updating various databases and reviewing articles related to citizen diplomacy, public diplomacy, nonprofit leadership and international education and exchange. During the course of the semester, the Public Diplomacy intern may be offered the opportunity to provide support to Global Ties U.S. exchange programs, which falls outside of the regular internship scope of work.

Communications Internship qualifications
  • Communications background: Ideal candidate has experience in writing for the web, email, social media, and general editing skills.
  • Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience with MS Office (Word and Excel)
  • Experience with graphic design (Ideally with Adobe Creative Suites, including InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Flexibility and willingness to work beyond the parameters of a job description
  • Maturity and a sense of humor
  • Background and interest in citizen diplomacy, public diplomacy, nonprofit leadership, global engagement, or international education and exchange
Events Internship qualifications
  • Ideal candidate has experience in registration processing and event logistics, including arranging catering and audio-visual services, writing and editing program materials.
  • Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience with MS Office (Word and Excel)
  • Background and interest in citizen diplomacy, public diplomacy, nonprofit leadership, global engagement, or international education and exchange
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Detail oriented
  • Experience with graphic design (InDesign and Photoshop) desired, but not essential
  • Flexibility and willingness to work beyond the parameters of a job description
  • Maturity and a sense of humor
  • Ability to transition easily from working as a team player to working independently
  • Desire to grow and learn from the experience
Public Diplomacy Internship qualifications
  • The ideal candidate possesses a demonstrated interest in the field of citizen diplomacy, public diplomacy, nonprofit leadership, global engagement, or international education and exchange.
  • Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience with MS Office (Word and Excel)
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Detail oriented
  • Multi-cultural experience
  • Experience with graphic design (InDesign and Photoshop) desired, but not essential
  • Flexibility and willingness to work beyond the parameters of a job description
  • Maturity and a sense of humor
  • Outgoing 
  • Ability to transition easily from working as a team player to working independently
  • Desire to grow and learn from the experience

Cost/funding for participants:

Internships are unpaid, but upon the successful completion of a semester, we provide unpaid volunteer interns with a stipend to help defray internship-related expenses, such as; transportation costs to and from the Global Ties U.S. office. We will also work with students to arrange academic credit and meet other program requirements.
