The Consulate General of Switzerland in New York represents and promotes the interests of Switzerland and of Swiss citizens in New York and the Northeastern United States. Its Economic Affairs and Communication team is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time position as Social Media and Communications Manager in Public Diplomacy. This is a locally recruited position, ideally for a native English speaker. The primary task of this individual is to support Switzerland’s public diplomacy efforts in New York through managing the Consulate General’s social media presence, organizing events, coordinating press efforts, assisting the team, and managing overall communications.
Our ideal candidate is highly motivated, proactive and is always willing to go the extra mile. He/she is an expert communicator, has an outgoing personality and easily adapts in multicultural settings. This person is a digital native with experience in the social media space and a background working in communications. He/she has a passion for international affairs and an understanding of diplomacy. An understanding of the importance of networking and the ability to build relationships across government, business and industry associations is also expected. Excellent communication and organizational skills, the ability to work independently and attention to detail are perquisites [sic]. The position will also support the administrative duties of the team. Further, the candidate should have a good understanding of Switzerland. Additional responsibilities beyond those listed here will be determined and assigned as needed. 
 Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Curating and creating original social media content; overseeing all social media accounts
  • Filming and editing video content for social media, using tools such as iMovie and Adobe Premiere
  • Creating graphic design elements for social media, using tools like Canva and Photoshop
  • Planning and organizing events for public outreach
  • Creating event invitations in Eventbrite and email campaigns in Mailchimp
  • Project management assistance for internal and external activities  
  • Coordinating press outreach with Swiss and US media representatives
  • Testing new digital tools and strategies to further public diplomacy efforts for Switzerland in the US
  • Managing relationships within the New York digital diplomacy community
  • Building relationships with local government and Swiss businesses in the US on behalf of Switzerland
  • Be able to train others on the use of social media and digital tools for public diplomacy
  • In-house editor for all English communications, such as letters and official correspondence, in addition to social media/blog posts, articles, written brochures and print material 
  • Support the team with administrative duties as needed
Requirements:
  • A university degree in a related field to communications, public relations, marketing, international relations, social science, humanities, economics
  • Professional experience in a social media and digitally focused environment; background in international affairs or political communications preferred
  • Digital native with full competencies navigating Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, YouTube and various other social platforms for content sharing and analytics tracking
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; event management experience desired
  • Full computer literacy with Microsoft Office and tech savvy (knowledge of Adobe CC preferred)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English (ideally a native English speaker)
  • Working knowledge in at least one of the official languages of Switzerland (German, French, Italian)
  • Interest in Swiss culture, exposure to working in Switzerland or Europe desired
  • Hold either a Green Card or US Citizenship
