THE Zambian mission in Turkey has embarked on an information outreach programme under which it will interact with schools in that country to share information.
Charge d’affaires at the Zambian mission in Ankara, Bwalya Nondo, said the programme is aimed at bridging the knowledge gap between Zambia and that country, encourage education tourism, and also increase visibility of Zambia in various spheres of life.
In a statement issued by first secretary press at the Zambian mission in Ankara Jerry Munthali, Mr Nondo said the programme will be executed through showing of videos and making presentations depicting Zambia’s social, economic and tourism landscapes.
“So far, the Zambian mission in Ankara has been visited by two schools whose pupils were mesmerised to see through a video show, developmental strides Zambia has made,” he said.
Mr Nondo said the Zambian mission will use public diplomacy as a tool of reaching out to the community to make Zambia more visible as a tourism and investment destination, to enhance the image of the country.
He also said the information outreach programme has been prompted by interest generated by learning institutions in Turkey to discover Africa, in general, and Zambia, in particular, through interaction with foreign missions.
Mr Nondo also said pupils confessed that contrary to the negative picture which the western World paints about African countries, the videos and presentations depict Zambia as a prospering nation and an oasis of peace.
He thanked the Turkish students for taking interest in Zambia.
