A multi-media promotional campaign for international cultural exchange along the ancient Silk Road was launched on Sunday at the Xinjiang Pavilion Square of Tianshan Tianchi scenic spot in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The event was sponsored by the State Council Information Office and China Radio International, together with China Public Diplomacy Association, Xinjiang Tianshan Tianchi Management Committee and China.com.

Guo Weimin, Deputy Director of State Council Information Office, and Wang Gengnian, Director-general of China Radio International attended the launching ceremony along with guests of media organizations both from home and abroad.

Wang Gengnian says the event will promote Chinese culture and civilizations along the Silk Road, enhance mutual understanding among Asian countries and advance the development of Xinjiang as part of the effort to implement the Belt and Road initiatives.

The promotional campaign was first launched in 2013 and has since been held in Shaanxi, Gansu, and Hainan amongst others.

Historically, Xinjiang is an important passage of interflow between Asian and European civilizations, which has played a unique role in exchanges between the East and West.
