Kickstarter is a crowdfunding [JB- see] platform that connects social entrepreneurs and community investors on social media to help turn their ideas into reality. In October 2015, the White House and the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) collaborated on Kickstarter to create USA for UNHCR, a campaign that provided Syrian refugees with food, water, clothing, and aid. The campaign mobilized 27,669 people around the world and raised nearly $1.8 million in a week. This initiative is also noteworthy for being one of the first times that a government used a crowdfunding platform for public diplomacy.
