GENERAL:
The Australian Embassy in Yangon represents the Australian Government in Myanmar. Its role
is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians in Myanmar. It is staffed by employees
of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australian Federal Police, the Department
of Immigration and Border Protection, the Australian Trade Commission and the Department of
Defence.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND TRADE
The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of
Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security,
enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program
and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.
The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian
Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination
of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Public Diplomacy Officer works under limited direction, with responsibility for planning and
implementing post’s public diplomacy strategy, communications and related activities for the
Australian Embassy in Myanmar. The occupant will promote a better understanding of
Australia’s culture, values and capacities in Myanmar and globally through public diplomacy
messages and events; build relationships and networks to advance Australia’s interests and
values; and monitor the Australia/Myanmar relationship as portrayed via media sources.
